Stories: Narrative Photography

While photography is popularly associated with capturing the moment, it has always been a sensitive medium for storytelling as well. Looking at a photograph can allow us to understand much about the past that led up to the moment frozen in time; it can also enable the viewer to imagine the possible future unfolding from the still record of the here and now. Photographers portraying people, objects, and places can tell inspiring stories, provided we take the time to study and interpret their images. A narrative conveyed in a single photograph is an exciting challenge for both photographer and viewer alike.

"Threshold" explores the quiet space between what has been and what is yet to come. The figure, seen only from behind, stands before a window that becomes both a physical boundary and a symbolic one—a place where memory, anticipation, and uncertainty converge.
The sparse room hints at impermanence, suggesting either an arrival or a departure. By withholding the subject's identity and circumstances, the photograph resists a fixed narrative, inviting viewers to imagine what has led to this moment and what might follow beyond the frame.
Photography has the ability to suspend time while allowing stories to unfold. "Threshold" embraces that ambiguity, offering a single still moment that becomes a beginning, an ending, or something in between, depending on the viewer's own experiences.
