"Free to Be"
Free to Be is a photography project that explores self-expression through the choices people make about their appearance. Whether conscious or unconscious, these decisions reflect aspects of identity, individuality, and personal experience. Through hair, makeup, clothing, tattoos, jewelry, and other forms of self-presentation, people communicate something about themselves to the world. The subjects in this project use these elements to express who they are and how they wish to be seen.
Handwritten quotes accompany each portrait, highlighting the details that are most meaningful to them. Through portraiture and close-up imagery, the project celebrates the many ways people express themselves. Thank you to Adam, Kate, Martta, Sierra, and Yazan for their participation.
